WHAT VOLUNTEERS DO

Thank you very much for your interest in volunteering for FOTA's Long Island Summer Festival, Long Island Jazz Festival and Beethoven Festival.

Our audiences are out to have an enjoyable evening. As a volunteer supporting FOTA's work in the community, you can help them to fully experience truly memorable concerts, rain or shine.  As a non-profit organization, FOTA relies heavily on its volunteers, who are involved in almost every aspect of the events.

Volunteer positions include:

Ticket Seller
Under the direction of the Box Office Staff, ticket-sellers are stationed at both the front and back gates and sell tickets to that evening's concert. Ticket-sellers must be able to handle cash efficiently and accurately and be on their feet for 2-3 hours.

Ticket Taker
Ticket-takers are stationed at both the Pavilion entrance and the Lawn parking area. Ticket-takers verify and tear the tickets. This position is excellent for volunteers who cannot stand for long periods of time. Lawn ticket-takers must be able to stand for 2-3 hours.

Usher
Ushers direct patrons to their seats inside the FOTA Pavilion.

Artist Hospitality
Artist Hospitality volunteers arrive early and leave late, setting up lunch, dinner, and after-show snacks as needed for the artists and crew.

Festival Club
Festival Club is a private club for major donors and Board members. Festival Club volunteers set up and serve beverages and snacks pre-concert and during intermission.

Raffle Sales
Raffle sellers must feel comfortable approaching people and must enjoy personal contact with our audience. Raffle Sellers must be comfortable handling cash, and be able to walk for up to 2 hours around the lawn and tent areas. All proceeds from raffle sales benefit FOTA's programs, including ArtReach , our acclaimed arts-in-education program that serves students in schools throughout Long Island.

Volunteer Sign-in
Volunteers working at sign-in check in all volunteers and make sure that they are wearing their name tags, verify job assignments for that evening, and give volunteers their respective equipment.

Merchandise Sales
Merchandise sales volunteers sell FOTA merchandise, including T-Shirts, hats, tote bags, etc. Volunteers working merchandise sales must be able to balance money and merchandise at the end of the evening. This can be a seated position.

Information Table
Volunteers assigned to the Information Table are expected to be generally helpful to the public, directing people to bathrooms, food areas, etc. Volunteers in this position must be familiar with FOTA programs and membership benefits.
